CBGB & OMFUG The Age of Punk

CBGB & OMFUG The Age of Punk

When founder Hilly Kristal first opened CBGB in 1973, its name stood for “Country, Bluegrass, and Blues & Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers.” It was the “Other Music” that soon took over, making it the hub for all things punk and new wave in Manhattan’s East Village.

The club saw the birth of bands of extraordinary talent and infamy- Television, Blondie, The Patti Smith Group, the Ramones, Dead Boys, the Talking Heads, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Sonic Youth and so many more. This photographic exhibit and sale explores scenes from this dive bar-turned-rock 'n roll mecca and the punk scene.
