5 Tequila Cocktail Recipes for Cinco de Mayo

With Cinco de Mayo comes warmer weather, cause for celebration and, last but certainly not least, the unofficial opener for tequila season. No matter how you'll be commemorating the occasion, these five tequila-infused cocktails inspired by some of music history's most noteworthy compatriots are sure to hit the right note all season long. Cheers!

Shaking up the early seventies, the tequila, orange juice and grenadine concoction was first introduced to Mick Jagger during a private party hosted by famed promoted Bill Graham. Subsequently, it became a staple on the Rolling Stones' widely-storied 1972 tour which has also been referred to as the band's "cocaine and tequila sunrise tour." The signature cocktail also received a musical nod in The Eagles' "Just Another Tequila Sunrise" and the rest is history.

1 part Jose Cuervo Especial Silver
2 parts Orange Juice
1 tsp Grenadine

1. Pour tequila and orange juice into a glass, over ice.
2. Slowly pour in grenadine.
3. Enjoy in a way the Rolling Stones would approve of.

Raising a toast to the long-reigning Queen of Rock, this cocktail is inspired by the hit single from the Beyond Thunderdome soundtrack. Conjuring the slow-burning grit, smoke, sizzle and spice which underscores both the song and time-honored mystique of Tina Turner herself, this one hits all the right notes.

1/2 oz Reposado Tequila (Cimarron)
1/2 oz Mezcal (Fidencio)
1/2 oz Batavia Arrack (von Oosten)
1 1/2 oz Jasper's Basic Stock Mix (*)
1/4 oz Sfumato or Zucca Rabarbaro (Sfumato)
1/4 oz Green Chartreuse

Build in a metal cup, fill with crushed ice, swizzle to mix and chill, and garnish with a lime shell Thunderdome and freshly grated nutmeg.
(*) Jasper's Basic Stock Mix: Stir to dissolve 12 oz sugar in 16 oz lime juice. Add 1 oz Angostura Bitters and 1 heaping tsp freshly grated nutmeg. Refrigerate. Shake before using.

Though best know for his mastery of the guitar, living legend Carlos Santanais also something of a tequila connoisseur in his own right. Born in Jalisco, the Mexican state from which all spirits which fall under the tequila category originate, Santana's signature blend of Latin-infused rock, jazz, blues, salsa and African rhythm take new form with his co-ownership of Casa Noble Tequila. Of the spellbinding intersection and this signature cocktail, the enduring icon adds, "One note or one drop, they are the same thing. You have to feel each note from your heart."

1 1/2 oz Casa Noble Reposado
3/4 oz lime juice
1 oz Monin spicy mango syrup
2 dashes of gracefruit bitters
4 to 6 basil leaves

Combine in chilled glass and serve over ice, saving 1-2 basil leaves to garnish. Salted rim optional.

With more Grammy wins to her name than any female artists in music history, Beyoncé knows a thing or two about getting the party started. Yet when it comes to kicking off her own, some fans may be surprised to learn that Queen Bey is known to keep things casual with her drink of choice, the perennial Long Island Iced Tea.

½ fluid ounce vodka
½ fluid ounce rum
½ fluid ounce gin
½ fluid ounce tequila
½ fluid ounce triple sec (orange-flavored liqueur)
1 fluid ounce sweet and sour mix
1 fluid ounce cola, or to taste
1 lemon slice

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour vodka, rum, gin, tequila, triple sec, and sour mix over ice; cover and shake. Pour cocktail into a Collins or hurricane glass; top with splash of cola for color. Garnish with a lemon slice.

Joined by the likes of The Doors, The Who and the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant is one of many rock legends to stay at West Hollywood's iconic "Riot House" hotel. Making the Led Zeppelin frontman's tenure a bit more noteworthy is one particular visit during which Plant is said to have shouted “I am a golden god!” from his suite balcony overlooking the Sunset Strip. Beyond inspiring the well-known scene from the movie Almost Famous, the encounter also earned him intriguing merit with a special place on the hotel's cocktail menu. Though the hotel has changed hands several times over the years, the Mr. Plant remains a decades-strong favorite for Andaz West Hollywood patrons, proudly served at the Riot House Bar.

1.5 oz. Herradura Reposado “Tequila-Ball” cinnamon tequila
8 cucumber slices (2 for garnish)
½ tangerine
1 dash of agave nectar
Club soda to fil

Fill a shaker with 5 cucumber slices, half a tangerine and a dash of agave nectar. Muddle ingredients. Next, fill shaker two-thirds full with ice, add tequila and shake well. Strain into a rocks glass, top off with club soda and garnish with remaining cucumber slices.
