David Bowie, 1990s, portraits by Jake Chessum

Kicking off in 1990 with an ad campaign starring a sixteen year-old Kate Moss, the career of photographer Jake Chessum would go on to include noteworthy collaborations with the likes of Amy Winehouse, The Beastie Boys, Jay Z and none other than the late-great David Bowie. In a 1995 portrait shoot, Chessum lenses the legend in rare form, embracing the artist with a candor that is far more casual and up-close that many are accustomed. It is upon encounters such as these that Jake Chessum has built a critically acclaimed career, deconstructing the stardom of his subjects to capture moments in which they are at their utmost human.
