The seedy nightclub opened by Hilly Kristal in 1973 gave the stage to artists at punk's infancy bringing Patti Smith, Ramones, Blondie, Television, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, Richard Hell, Suicide, Misfits, Cramps to the tiny stage, launching them to notoriety. After years of trying to keep it open and pay the rent in the gentrifying Bowery location, it finally closed its doors in 2013 but CBGB goes down in history as the beloved 'shithole' that launched a thousand ships. All these CBGB club photos are available as fine art prints.
