Reggae

An amalgam of traditional "mento" folk music, American Jazz and New Orleans R&B with Jamaican roots dating back to the 1960s rocksteady movement, reggae is more than the sum of its parts. In the half-century that has passed since its genesis, the genre has given rise not only to the likes of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Joe Cocker and contemporaries such as Grace Jones, Shaggy and Matisyahu but moreover to a more global, transnational identity of Caribbean culture.
