Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters formed in Seattle, Washington in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl following the dissolution of Nirvana after the death of frontman Kurt Cobain. Grohl named the group after a period of reading about UFOS and various aerial phenomena that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II, which were known collectively as "foo fighters." During tours with Nirvana, Grohl took a guitar with him and wrote songs but held back these songs from the rest of the band; he said in 1997, "I was in awe of Cobain's songs and was intimidated. I thought it was best that I kept my songs to myself." Instead of being a drummer in various bands as a life-career, he began recording his music, playing all the instruments and putting it all together to sound like an entire band. He eventually recruited bandmates to play his music live debuting in Seattle in 1995. Since then Grohl has crafted multiple Grammy winning albums and videos every 2-3 years, playing music with his rock legend heros and continuing today to play for adoring fans the world over.
