Metal Music Photography

Beginning in the late '60s in the UK, metal music formed from blues and psychadelic-acid rock, developing into the heavy, distortion filled sound we know. Three of the main heavy metal acts of the genre emerged at this time, including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple. By the mid '70s, Judas Priest launched the genre into stardom with a sound that led fans away from the blues roots of the music, then branching off into many sub-categories in the '80s, bringing us sounds of thrash metal such as Metallica and Slayer. Keeping the aggression filled, heart pounding metal sound alive, groove metal appeared with bands like Pantera, and Nu metal in the mid '90s with Korn and Slipknot.
