Morrison Hotel Gallery is proud to present our collection of pictures of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin (1942-2018). Singing gospel music in church where her father was the minister, and after a modest start with her singing career, this soul singing legend was launched into stardom and onto multiple top 100 lists with songs like "Respect" and "Think", one version of which she would go on to record 12 years later during her role in the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers. Aretha was honored as the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She's sold over 75 million records and won 18 Grammy Awards. In 2008, she sang at President Barack Obama's inauguration and in 2015, sang "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", during the section for honoree Carole King (who co-wrote the song) earning a mid-performance standing ovation from the audience. Aretha's powerful voice and soulful music will continue to be an inspiration to singers of all genres.
