CBGB - The Age of Punk

The marquee that once stood at 315 Bowery may have been an acronym for "Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers" but history remembers CBGB as the birthplace of punk, giving rise to some of the biggest names in music before the rest of the world would come to know them as The Ramones, Blondie, Sonic Youth, Television and The Patti Smith Group. More than the fame and fortune that would follow some of its headliners, the late CB’s legacy lives on as a cultural institution forty-seven years after the now-iconic venue first opened its doors on December 10, 1973.
