Though known primarily as foremost interpreter of the world's classical repertory, Glenn Gould also expressed his boundless creativity through his own compositions. One of these, the satirical "So You Want To Write A Fugue?" (for four-part chorus, piano and string quartet) was written as the finale for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation festival program, "The Anatomy of the Fugue." Introduced on-air by Glenn Gould, "So You Want To Write A Fugue?" was first broadcast on March 4, 1963, the same month as this photo of Gould, contemplating the inner nature of a chord pattern, was snapped by Don Hunstein at the Columbia Masterworks 30th Street Studios in New York.
