© Frank Stefanko, 1978

This is the shot that Frank called “The Sharp Eyes of Truth” in his book Days of Hope and Dreams: An Intimate Portrait of Bruce Springsteen. As we’ve come to learn, this image was actually shot during the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions. Since The River was a natural progression from Darkness, Bruce chose this shot for the cover.

SUSAN BRANDT BLACHLEY STAFF PICK With this photograph, Stefanko gives us a gift from Bruce, a close-up,intimate look into the eyes of The Boss. I wonder how many of these albums are smudged with lipstick.
