1962 found Johnny Mathis working on Rapture, his first album with noted arranger/conductor/producer Don Costa. Mathis and Costa would collaborate on some of Johnny's most iconic releases, including 1963's Johnny, Romantically, and Sounds Of Christmas, 1964's Tender Is The Night, 1972's Christmas With Johnny Mathis and 1987's Great Years. This Don Hunstein shot of Johnny in the studio shows how effortlessly the Voice of Love emanates from the artist, his coffee cup in hand as he sings, and how his perfectionism and attention-to-detail extends through every note and fashion accessory, his wingtips neatly fitted with shoetrees, resting on a towel, waiting for Johnny Mathis to step out on the town.
