"I went along with Chris Welch, the writer for the Melody Maker, to interview Pete who wanted to tell us about his new idea for a 'concept album.' It was a cold and dark day and after much chat about music, art, and the guru, Meha Babba, he told us about this story of a deaf, dumb, and blind kid that he was working on. As I was taking this shot near the window in the failing light, I said that it seemed rather a sad and depressing theme and that I couldn't see how it would be accepted or could become a hit. Shows how much I knew since as destiny was to show, Tommy became The Who's biggest and best success!" — Barrie Wentzell
